In 2025, after 50 years at their national headquarters at Shreveport, the American Rose Society made a business decision to separate itself from the American Rose Center—the property, the Gardens. Its leaders recognized a need to concentrate on its membership and mission.
Anticipating that the separation, volunteers and supporters associated with the Gardens began envisioning and planning for a new organization to operate as a community-owned botanic garden. That new nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation—the American Rose Center—was registered on November 21, 2025, and was able to retain the names, “American Rose Center” and “America’s Rose Garden.” It will build upon those established identities.
Under new leadership—a local Board of Directors, staff and a growing Volunteer Corps—we expect the Gardens to grow and thrive as a public garden, owned by the community, drawing visitors from across the nation and around the world, building on the extraordinary horticultural heritage already established on the property while broadening the ways people experience the Gardens.
We are departing from the Society on good terms; their history will always be part of the Gardens. But we expect to enjoy the independence and success that new ownership will bring as the Community and longtime supporters embrace the gardens as their own; take pride in its beauty, staying power, and its contribution to quality of life in the area.
